Questions

How do I know if my phone supports eSIM?+

Look it up in the list above. If it is not there, type *#06# on the phone keypad: if an EID number appears, it supports eSIM. On an iPhone you can also see it in Settings › General › About.

Does the phone have to be unlocked?+

Yes. A handset still tied to a contract cannot install an eSIM, and only your carrier can release it — we cannot. If you bought it unlocked, there is nothing to do.

Which iPhones have eSIM?+

Every model from the iPhone XR and XS onwards, including the 2020 and 2022 SE. iPhones bought in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao have no eSIM, except the iPhone 13 mini, 12 mini, SE (2020) and XS.

What if my model is not on the list?+

That does not mean it is incompatible: the list does not include every model. Type *#06# on the keypad: if an EID number appears, it supports eSIM.

Does it matter where I bought the phone?+

Sometimes. Some Samsung phones have no eSIM depending on the country they were sold in, several Xiaomi phones only have it in their Chinese version, and iPhones from mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao rarely do. Each brand has its notes on the list.
