Coming to Spain? Here is how to have mobile data from the moment you land: what works, what it costs, and what changes if you walk the Camino de Santiago for a month or tour the Basque Country for a weekend. We are a small eSIM shop from Bilbao, in the Basque Country.
Do you need an eSIM for Spain?
- From the EU or the EEA: your home plan usually includes roaming in Spain at home prices ("roam like at home"). Check your tariff and its fair-use limit first; you may not need anything.
- From the UK, the US, Canada, Latin America, Asia or Australia: roaming in Spain is usually expensive. A travel eSIM gives you local data for the price of a local plan.
How it works
- Buy before you fly and get the eSIM by email in under a minute.
- Install it at home, on Wi-Fi: on iPhone with one tap, on Android with a code, or by scanning a QR from another screen. The steps are in the installation guide.
- When you land, choose the eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it. The plan starts on your first connection in Spain, not when you buy it.
Your usual SIM stays in the phone, so calls and texts still reach your number, and WhatsApp keeps working with it.
Networks and coverage
In Spain our plans use Orange and Movistar, two of the country's largest networks, with 5G where it is available. You will see their name in the status bar, never ours. Each plan's network and price are on the Spain eSIM page.
An honest note: on these plans your connection reaches the internet from another European country (France, the Netherlands or the UK, depending on the plan). Maps, messaging and browsing work the same; a streaming or banking app may see you there.
Walking the Camino de Santiago
The Camino is a long trip, so plan your data for weeks, not days:
- Pick a plan that covers the whole walk (30 days or more), or a smaller one and top it up on the way from your order page; on plans that allow it, a top-up adds data to the same eSIM.
- Download offline maps of your stage before you leave each town: some stretches between villages have weak coverage.
- Share data with a friend through hotspot instead of buying two plans if you walk together.
- Carry a power bank: navigation and photos all day drain a battery fast.
A weekend in the Basque Country
Bilbao, Donostia-San Sebastián and the coast between them are compact, and a week's plan covers a weekend comfortably. Use your data for maps between pintxo bars and for the train and bus timetables; most bars and hotels also have Wi-Fi.
How much data
For a week: 1 GB is enough for messages and maps; with normal use (messages, maps and some social media every day), 3 to 5 GB; with social media and video every day, about 10 GB. Work it out with the data calculator.
Questions
Can I use it in other countries on the same trip?
For Spain plus other European countries, a Europe plan covers them all with one eSIM.
What if I do not travel?
As long as you have not installed it, we refund it in one click from your order.
