Plan Ibiza around the holiday you actually want: old-town walks, beach days, late nights, or a mixture with time to recover. Choose your base after checking how you will get back each evening. A room that looks convenient on an island map can still be awkward for the particular beach or event you have booked.
Choose a base and plan the town
Four bases, four different priorities
Ibiza Town/Eivissa suits a stay built around Dalt Vila, the marina and access to ferries. Talamanca gives a beach option close to that town area, while Platja d'en Bossa is another distinct coastal base. Santa Eulària des Riu offers a town-and-promenade setting elsewhere on the island. Sant Antoni is on the western side and makes sense for a different set of beaches and evening plans. A rental listed merely as “Ibiza” can be in any of these areas or inland.
Compare the return from your actual evening destination before paying. If someone in the group wants early nights while others want late events, ask about room orientation and surrounding noise rather than relying on a property's description as family-friendly. If you need step-free beach access, establish the exact route to the sand and facilities for your travel dates.
For a four-day editorial outline, use one Ibiza Town day, one beach day, one inland or second-coast excursion and one flexible day. That does not require a car for every day. You can hire for the excursion that needs it, if the rental and collection arrangements make sense.
Ibiza Town, also called Eivissa, contains the walled upper town of Dalt Vila. The Balearic tourism board’s walking description links Plaça de Vila and the Portal de ses Taules with streets climbing towards the cathedral square. Allow yourself a proper walk with breaks rather than treating it as a quick stop between a flight and a boat.
Wear footwear suitable for slopes and steps and check a suitable route if accessibility matters. If you want a museum or interior visit, verify its current opening independently before building the day around it. Keep a quieter town evening available even if the main purpose of your trip is nightlife.
Dalt Vila, beaches and the return journey
A Dalt Vila route that distinguishes town from island
Begin around Passeig de Vara de Rey and Plaça del Parc, then approach Portal de ses Taules and Plaça de Vila. Continue uphill through the old lanes towards the cathedral square, with pauses at the ramparts rather than treating the climb as a shortcut. The official walking description returns by civic and religious buildings towards the lower square. This is a walking route through a living historic area, not a promise that every museum door will be open.
The slopes and steps are a real consideration for a pushchair, wheelchair or a group tired from the flight. Choose a shorter lower-town route if necessary. For a cultural addition, investigate the Puig des Molins archaeological museum/necropolis and its current visitor arrangement separately. It is not part of an unrestricted ticket that comes automatically with walking through the town gates.
For a beach outing, compare Talamanca with a west-coast destination such as Cala Conta or the Cala d'Hort area, which looks towards Es Vedrà. Conditions, access and parking are different. A beach's appearance in an official tourism list does not guarantee a lifeguard, shade or a safe swim on your day; use local signs and flags.
Compare accommodation using the places you expect to visit and the time you expect to return. If you want several late evenings, check transport for those exact nights. If your priority is sleep, ask about surrounding noise rather than relying on a property's description of itself as relaxing.
For beach-focused stays, compare Talamanca near Ibiza Town with the urban waterfront of Santa Eulària. Check each beach’s access and the facilities you need. Confirm whether you can reach supplies on foot. Save the accommodation address and check-in instructions before departure, particularly if your arrival is outside normal reception hours.
Book events and boats carefully
Check the venue's own calendar for a specific event and date before buying transport around it. Read the ticket conditions and confirm what the price includes. A general description of Ibiza's nightlife cannot establish that a particular event is running during your stay.
Treat a boat excursion as a weather-dependent plan and understand the cancellation terms. If adding Formentera, confirm the departure port, return sailing and transfer back to your accommodation. Leave room between a sea crossing and a flight rather than buying the tightest possible connection.
Leave room for a slower day
Airport, Formentera and dates that matter
The airport is I B Z, normally written IBZ on the ticket, and the island's airport bus resources include the Eivissa–Sant Jordi–airport corridor. Search the current operator's date-specific timetable before building a late arrival around it; the readily indexed winter PDF covering November 2025–April 2026 is not proof of a November 2026 departure. If no usable service is confirmed, arrange a transfer with a precise meeting point instead of guessing a last bus.
Formentera has no airport and the gateway is La Savina port. Its official tourism information describes fast ferry journeys from Ibiza Town of about 30 minutes, but vessels and conditions differ. Add reaching the correct Ibiza port, boarding and getting onward from La Savina: “half an hour by boat” is not half an hour from hotel door to beach. Book a return that leaves margin before your flight, particularly on separate tickets.
For events, use the venue's actual calendar and the named event date. “Opening season” or “closing season” is not one island-wide date applying to every business. On an off-season cultural trip, confirm food and transport near your base; on a party-focused trip, price the return journey before buying a ticket. Keep one day interchangeable with a beach or town day if a boat is cancelled.
Keep the four-day outline above flexible once you know the forecast and any essential booking times.
- Keep one cultural or indoor alternative to a beach day.
- Agree a meeting place if your group separates at night.
- Save your return transport information offline.
- Read seasonal opening details before booking an off-season stay.
For a quieter trip, compare dates using the Balearic seasonal guide, then check the services around your actual base.
Entry and travel documents
For UK and US tourists, the visa-free limit is 90 days in any 180 across Schengen, including time elsewhere before Spain. Consult UK entry advice and the EU travel site before departure. EES registers entries and exits; as checked on 1 November 2026, ETIAS still announces a launch in the last quarter of 2026 without a precise start date, and the EU says no traveller action is required yet. Requirements change, and a booked holiday does not replace meeting them.
Staying connected
Data helps find an IBZ pickup, check the correct Formentera boarding point and arrange a safe return after an evening event; save the accommodation address before going out. A data-only eSIM for Spain can be installed before travelling, gives local data on arrival and keeps your own SIM, with essential ferry and flight tickets also stored offline.
